The Mexico Fund, Inc. Pays Dividend Distribution WASHINGTON, DC--(MARKET WIRE)--Jan 5, 2009 -- The Mexico Fund, Inc. (NYSE:MXF - News) announced
that it will pay today a cash dividend distribution of $1.2388
per share,
equivalent to 3.28% of the Fund's NAV per share on July
31, 2008, to
stockholders of record on December 18, 2008. As described
further below, it
is estimated that this dividend distribution, which is the
third under the
Fund's Managed Distribution Plan (MDP), will be fully comprised
of
long-term capital gains. The amount of distributable income for each fiscal period depends on the aggregate gains and losses realized by the Fund during the entire year. Distributions may consist of net investment income, capital gains and return of capital, but the character of these distributions cannot be determined until after the end of the Fund's fiscal year. However, under the Investment Company Act of 1940, the Fund is required to indicate the source of each distribution to stockholders. The following table sets forth an estimate of the source of the January 2009 distribution and for the current fiscal year:

On December 8, 2008, the Fund announced that in light of current market circumstances, the Board has decided to reduce from 12% to 10% of the net asset value per share (NAV) the amount of annual distributions that the Fund will pay to stockholders under the MDP during 2009. The Fund intends to pay quarterly cash dividends of $0.42 per share during April, July and October 2009 and January 2010, each equivalent to 2.5% of the Fund's NAV per share as of December 31, 2008.
