Middle School Science Bowl on April 19, 2008, which has
been proclaimed as
Arizona Middle School Science Bowl Day by Governor Napolitano
to help
promote the values and importance of science and math education
in the
State of Arizona. More than 5,000 students compete in the annual Middle School Science Bowl competitions nationwide. At least 12 teams representing schools throughout Arizona will be competing for a fully paid trip to the U.S. Department of Energy's National Science Bowl® taking place in Denver, Colorado, June 19 - 22, 2008. The National Science Bowl® is a nationwide academic competition that tests students' knowledge in all areas of science. Teams are comprised of four students and a teacher, who serves as an advisor. Dr. Matt Kim, Founder and President of QuantTera, will kick-off the event as the honorable guest speaker. Dr. Kim has a background in the microelectronics industry and has developed innovative LASERs, detectors and amplifiers, the enabling components for telecommunications. He is Chair of the Arizona Nanotechnology Cluster, a fully non-profit 501c3 for nanotechnology education of the general public. Dr. Kim received a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and B.S. in Engineering Physics from Cornell University.
