Oil prices dipped below $80 a barrel Thursday in Asia as the U.S. dollar strengthened. Benchmark crude for December delivery was down 60 cents to $79.80 a barrel at midday Singapore time in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Crude oil stockpiles tumble by 4 million barrels

Crude inventories fell last week, along with declining gasoline supplies, the government said Wednesday. Crude inventories fell by 4 million barrels, or 1.2 percent, to 335.9 million barrels, which is 7.6 percent above year-ago levels, the Energy Department's Energy Information Administration said in its weekly report.
