Woori Finance Holdings (aka Woori Financial Group) was formed in 2001 when the South Korean government consolidated its interests in Hanvit Bank (now Woori Bank), Kyongnam Bank, Kwangju Bank, Peace Bank, and Hanaro Merchant Bank. Together, the group has more than 1,100 domestic and some 15 international locations. Most of these are Woori Bank branches; Woori Bank is the third-largest commercial bank in the nation by assets. It also owns regional banks Kyongnam Bank and Kwangju Bank. In addition to deposit and lending offerings, the company provides securities brokerage, asset management, wealth management, and insurance services. The South Korean government owns approximately 75% of Woori Financial Group.
