Working women who have never heard of A & E Stores are more likely to be familiar with its Strawberry and Bolton's retail apparel chains. The company operates more than 80 clothing stores, mostly in the Northeast, including more than 20 Strawberry Stores selling junior and women's apparel, shoes, and accessories, located in prime office districts in Manhattan and elsewhere in New York City. Its Bolton's chain has 17 off-price women's clothing stores in the Big Apple. A & E's Pay/Half chain runs 46-plus discount family clothing stores in about a half dozen northeastern states and the Chicago area. Founded in 1973, A & E Stores also owns Rugby Realty, a real estate investment firm.
