Friendster hosts social networks of friends through Friendster.com, where members create profiles, trade messages, view each other's tastes and preferences, and write testimonials about friends. It also features a blogging service powered by software firm Six Apart. Friendster has about 100 million members. Founded in 2002 by Jonathan Abrams, the service received considerable buzz early on, but the hype has since fizzled in the US. The company has a renewed focus that emphasises business in Asia. Friendster counts Internet heavyweights such as former Yahoo! CEO Tim Koogle, former PayPal CEO Peter Thiel, and former Amazon.com VP Ram Shriram as investors.
