American Spectrum Realty has narrowed the spectrum of its property portfolio. The firm invests in, expands, renovates, and manages commercial real estate, primarily multi-tenant office and industrial space. Its portfolio includes about 30 properties totaling some 2.5 million sq. ft. of leasable space. Most properties are located in Texas, but it also owns assets in the Midwest, Southern California, and Arizona. Since 2002, the company has sold more than 20 noncore properties (multifamily, retail, land parcels, and properties in the Midwest) while buying up several Houston commercial buildings. CEO William Carden controls 37% of the company; officers and directors collectively own 52%.
