A couple hundred small boutiques, one small name, and a world of style -- that's agnès b. The company -- named after its head designer's pseudonym -- designs and sells clothes, cosmetics, and accessories mostly for women, but also for men and children. The company's clothing is sold through small stores with the same name, as well as the company's own Web site. Cosmetics are also sold through high-end distributors. Founder Agnès Trouble owns the company, which operates about 200 boutiques worldwide. About half of its stores are now located in Japan. Its first US store opened in New York in 1981. Today, agnès b. also operates US stores in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
