Sunbelt Rentals shines in the equipment rental business. The second largest equipment rental company in the US (United Rentals is #1), it specializes in the rental of industrial machinery, vehicles, and tools through about 430 rental locations in 35 states, and another 90 locations inside Lowe's stores. Its stock of products, worth about $2 billion, includes aerial platforms, general tools, power generators, portable air conditioners, scaffolding, traffic safety equipment, and compressed air equipment. Originally formed in 1983, Sunbelt serves customers in commercial, residential, municipal, and service industries. The company, which is a subsidiary of Ashtead Group, also owns NationsRent.
