Weingarten Realty Investors works hard to make its commercial real estate garden blossom. The company owns, develops, manages, and leases commercial real estate. The real estate investment trust (REIT) has interests in more than 380 properties totaling more than 70 million sq. ft of leasable space; more than 325 of them are community shopping centers anchored by major food, retail, or discount stores. Its largest tenants include grocers Kroger and Safeway. The company also owns about 80 industrial sites and 30 parcels of unimproved land held for future development. It has properties in more than 20 states, mainly in the South, although Texas (and Houston in particular) remains its largest market.
