(b) Dr. Jochen Melchior announced his decision to resign from the Board of
Directors of Mattson Technology, Inc. (the "Company"), effective August 10,
2009.
Dr. Melchior, who is 69, has served as a director of the Company since January
2001 and as our Chairman of the Board from January 2001 until June 2008. The
Board and management team of the Company wish to express their gratitude and
appreciation to Dr. Melchior for his years of commitment and dedication in
serving Mattson Technology, Inc. and its stockholders.
