(e) In connection with his promotion to the position of Executive Vice
President and Chief Financial Officer of Assurant, Inc. (the "Company") and his
transition to the Company's corporate headquarters in New York, on July 13, 2009
the Compensation Committee of the Company's Board of Directors approved a
special one-time promotion bonus for Mr. Michael J. Peninger equal to 100
percent of his current base salary of $500,000. The bonus will be paid in cash
in a lump sum no later than July 31, 2009.
