(OTC BB:BMNM.OB) Bimini Capital Management, Inc., a real estate investment trust (REIT), invests in residential mortgage-backed securities (MBS) in the United States. Its portfolio of MBS include adjustable-rate MBS, fixed-rate MBS, hybrid adjustable-rate MBS, and balloon maturity MBS. The company has elected to be taxed as REIT under the Internal Revenue Code. As a REIT, it would not be subject to federal income tax purposes, provided that it distributes at least 90% of its REIT taxable income to its shareholders. The company was founded in 2003 as Bimini Mortgage Management, Inc. and changed its name to Opteum, Inc. in 2006. Later, it changed its name to Bimini Capital Management, Inc. in 2007.
