NEW YORK (AP) -- Chinese solar cell maker Solarfun Power Holdings Co. on Wednesday named Gareth Kung chief financial officer, effective Dec. 1.

Kung will replace Terry McCarthy, who has served as interim CFO during this transition period. McCarthy will continue as a member of the company's board of directors.

Kung previously served as group controller at Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp.
